Cukai Pintu
I took a day off today. I had to send my parents and my sister to Pudu. They were leaving for JB. Besides that, I managed to run some errands, before heading to KL. I had to pay for my flat’s ‘cukai pintu’ (property tax). Tomorrow would be the last day. Or else, I would be fined. As expected, the place where I had to pay the tax, (Subang Jaya Municipal Hall) was crowded. When I got my number, I was surprised to learn, there were about 150 people or so who were waiting before me. I took a seat and grumbled quietly. I waited for about 10 minutes before I wanted to call it a day. I then turned to my right, and struck a conversation with an Indian woman. I asked her how much the fine would be if I'd defer the payment. She didn’t know. But, you know what? She offered to pay the tax on my behalf (as an act of charity of course). She was so kind. I moved by her random act of kindness. It's rare these days.
